Margin Mate (“Margin Mate,” “we,” “us”) is a Shopify app that calculates a merchant’s true profit — revenue after cost of goods, shipping, transaction fees, refunds and ad spend. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how we use it, and your choices. It applies to the Margin Mate app installed on a Shopify store.
Data we access
When you install Margin Mate on your store, we access the following through the Shopify Admin API, using the permissions you grant at install:
- Orders — financial fields only: order name and dates, currency, subtotal, shipping charged, taxes, discounts, refunds, line items (title, SKU, quantity, price), and payment-transaction amounts and fees.
- Products and variants — title, SKU, price, image, and Shopify’s inventory unit cost (used as a suggested cost).
- Shop — store currency and plan type (used to display amounts and to determine whether billing charges are test charges on development stores).
We do not access, collect, or store customer personal information. Margin Mate does not request or read customer names, emails, phone numbers, or addresses. Orders are stored as financial figures only, with no link to an individual customer.
Data you provide
You may enter your own product costs (COGS) and monthly ad spend in the app. This information is stored to calculate your profit.
How we use data
We use the data above solely to provide the app’s functionality — to compute and display your per-order and per-product profit, highlight money-losing products, and show profit over time. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising or share it with third parties for their own purposes.
Storage and sub-processors
Data is stored in a PostgreSQL database and processed on our hosting provider (Railway). Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Our sub-processors are Shopify (the source of the data) and our hosting/database provider.
Retention and deletion
We retain your data while the app is installed. When you uninstall Margin Mate, we delete all data associated with your store within 48 hours, in line with Shopify’s shop-redaction requirements. We also honor Shopify’s customer data-request and redaction webhooks; because we do not store customer personal data, there is no customer information for us to return or erase.
Your choices
You control the app’s access by installing or uninstalling it and by the permissions you grant. Uninstalling the app stops all data access and triggers deletion as described above. You may also contact us to request deletion of your store’s data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
